Гендиректор ВОЗ пояснил, что это позволило бы направить больше вакцины от коронавируса в страны с низкими доходами, которые испытывают ее нехватку, и обеспечить достижение поставленной ранее всемирной организацией цели - вакцинировать не менее 10% населения всех стран мира до конца сентября.

Гебрейесус дал понять, что ВОЗ ведет мониторинг распределения вакцины в мире и будет продолжать это делать. Организация неоднократно призывала богатые страны поделиться вакциной с государствами с низкими доходами. Однако неравенство в доступе к вакцинам сохраняется. В мае ВОЗ выступила с инициативой охвата иммунизацией от коронавируса к концу сентября не менее 10% населения во всех странах мира.
